Red Things, Blue Things, Make Room for New Things... It's time for Summer Sale!

We at Crush love new things. We love new clothes, new restaurants, new friends, new haircuts, new crushes… New things are really great. They make you feel all bubbly and punchy and girly and fun.

One of the best parts of my job is seeing new things before anyone else even knows they exist, and often owning them as soon as Mike from UPS has carried them down the stairs. One of the most complicated—but still an exciting novelty that is not yet wasted on me—parts is living in three seasons at once: the current weather season (Summer), the deliveries season (Fall deliveries started 6/30!) and the season we’re buying for (we’re done with Holiday!).

Lucky for you though, because we’ve got to make room for these striking new fall pieces, it’s time for a sale! It’s smoldering in Boston right now, so it’s the prefect time to stock up on Summer staples like cocktail dresses, racer-back going out tops, maxi dresses and ditsy florals.

Three Cheers for Forty Winks!

Rebecca, Laura and myself were all fortunate enough, though perhaps didn't realize it at the time, to have grown up with sisters. Playing dress up, braiding hair and gabbing until dawn, all favorite pastimes of ours, are things that we learned growing up with other little girls... and then perfected with college roommates and many girlfriends here in Boston.

While my good friend Rachel Wentworth was in the store recently, we were talking about how having someone from growing up, someone that shared childhood memories, teen heartbreaks, and bad haircuts with you, around you in your 20s is a real treasure when the going gets tough (or when you're starting your own business!) Neither Rachel, nor I, nor Rebecca and Laura have our sisters in Boston, and it's easy to miss the sweetness and brutal honesty that sisters provide. Luckily, we share a network of tight knit, tough love, overstuffed closet owners from whom we gain expert advice and borrowed clothes.

It's those relationships that have helped Crush to blossom, and that will no doubt allow Forty Winks of Harvard Square to flourish as well.

The brainchild of Rachel and her dear friend, Meredith Donaldson, Forty Winks is a lingerie paradise for Boston and Cambridge gals alike. Across the river from Crush, located slightly above ground, Forty Winks is a cozy locale where Rachel and Meredith have accrued an array of bra sizes, a quiet but bubbly spirit and a collection of pieces for the boudoir that are airy, pretty and pristine... subtlety is key at Winks, the feeling is feminine, not overtly sexy.

Having celebrated their Grand Opening last week with white wine, cheese, and Forty Winks printed M&Ms, we're thrilled to share pictures of their store with all of you, and extend a virtual toast to Rachel and Meredith...

How to move on from a six year relationship… over Memorial Day Weekend!

As children, we take great pride in arranging the letters that form our name. Perfecting the characters that make our mark is a coming of age feat that brings tears to the eyes of our mentors and leaves us glowing with pride.

That same pride inhabits us at other moments in life... the moment you open the door to your first apartment, or perhaps your first store, and then later when your logo hangs above that door as the horseshoe that, with any luck, will guide you through your first years of business.

This Thursday we'll celebrate our 3rd Anniversary, with the friends, family and neighbors that have brought so many happy moments at 131 Charles Street. While I've only had the pleasure to share in this past year of Crush memories, many of you have been with the girls for the long haul; and it's you who have inspired us to this point.

Each morning I watch two girls get a little giddy over the career they've built for themselves. I see that same look when they make adjustments to their logo, update their online store, or see their brand in print. You can imagine then, the bursting-at-the-seams (pun highly intended) look that spread over their faces when they saw their name in lights... and by lights I mean, printed on cream colored grosgrain clothing tags for our first foray into private labeling.

It is without further adieu then, that I introduce you to our very own Crush Boutique Private Label tees and scarves!

We hope this news will bring you as much joy as it has us, and that you'll join us as we celebrate our anniversary with cupcakes, champagne, swag and summer clothes-- and all the other things that little girls are made of.

Cameo at the Val Party

Usually I defer to Brianne in the realm of the pen. However, certain trends are making me swoon so very much this Spring, I couldn't help but ask her, in the words of Alicia Silverstone, to let me make a cameo appearance......

1. Blues Rock. Blues-rock differs from that typically defined as blues with its more upbeat tempo, deep improvisational elements and amplified sounds. To me, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Janis Joplin have always captured this style with ease. When blues-rock emerged on the scene in the 1960's, the fashion icons were likewise embracing change and taking risks. One of my favorite breakthrough trends; cut-off shorts. Easy, breezy and just SO darn cute with pretty much any silk blouse, t-shirt or sweater, jean shorts denote the eased, improvisational vibe that blues-rock evokes in me. They've arrived at Crush in all of their splendor, and in all shapes and styles. Paige of Paige Premium Denim knows how to flatter our curves. Dark-washed and frayed, you can't go wrong if you leave them cuffed OR un-cuffed. J Brand doesn't betray us with their version. Lighter washed than the Paige version, but equally fun and flirty. And who doesn't love a little distressing to up the faux-grunge ante. Our final specimen is as hippie-chic as they come. Adorable, flirty, light wash, high-waisted flare shorts by BCBGeneration. Effortlessly throwing them on makes me feel "Bold as Love."

2. Naturally Undone. It would be amiss if I failed to admit that part of what makes me swoon for slacker-beauty is Josh Christopher himself. The Los Angeles based designer of Daftbird not only brings me the most buttery soft, lusciously delicious t-shirts my skin could ask for, but he does so while making my little heart pitter patter. These t-shirts flatter the body unbelievably in tones across the rainbow (imagine delectable pomegranates, delicate lilacs and sweet vanillas) while signaling "She's Come Undone" perfection. There is something so comforting and sexy about looking like you have just rolled out of bed, nowhere more apparent than in the product line "Bed Head." We, as women, strive to appear low-maintenance; no frill through the use of "barely there" make-up and hair products and understated threads. And while we may not have just rolled out of bed, we LOVE to play the part.

For this reason, this Spring I have been stocking up on t-shirts by Daftbird in deep v's, cropped versions and oversized cuts, as well as Love Quotes scarves, to complete my "undone" look. And if my laid-back appearance happens to attract the likes of the handsome Josh Christopher.....well, I suppose, it's all for the love of fashion.

3. Trompe l'oeil Exhibitionism. Stepping into fashion this season feels a great deal to me like walking straight into a Jean-Antoine Watteau painting. The art of Rococo France has always inspired me for the flirty and playful, frivolous sentiment it evokes. Pastels abound in curved femininity and pastoral landscapes. Artists succumbed to lighter palettes and fashionistas mimicked this trend with soft fabrics in blush, champagne and ecru tones.

Barely-there apparel has once again risen in the ranks and is popping up in every facet of our lives. As I type this blog and glance down at my newly painted, blushy Panda-Monium Pink polished nails, I can't help but notice how manifest this trend is. From my nail polish preference, to my new, beloved nude heeled Matt Bernson Camelo sandals, to my coveted Parker ballet slipper pink sequined dress, I am gaining momentum in my quest to bare it all. If it worked for Demi Moore on the red carpet in an apricot Versace, why not try my hand at it on the red carpet of Charles Street?

I’ll be the first to admit that my French is limited to words regarding fashion, ballet and dessert. While this perhaps isn’t the most inclusive of vocabularies, it’s gotten me pretty far… through twenty-two years of life (one at Crush) to be exact.

As my first year of Crush draws to a conclusion, my French vocab has now grown to include: “Rue de Charles.”

Models will have hair and make-up provided by The Beauty Mark and Mayfair on the Hill. Attendees will enjoy appetizers, wine tastings and music from the Piranesi String Quartet while viewing looks on the catwalk and shopping mini-boutiques.

Get Smart About Ditsy Florals

They're...post-war 1940s meets 1990s Beverly Hills 90210.
They're...sweet and silly, with a smidge of sass.
They're...that feeling of weak in the knees first crush, with the added flavor of lazy summer days.
They're...ditsy florals... and they're all the rage.

From sundresses to silk tops, ditsy florals have moved into Crush this Spring... and their lease looks to last well through the Summer and into the Fall. Yep, they're the hands down new favorite subletter in our underground lair.

We love the look of bold patterns with white or faded denim, but to ease into the trend, pair flowered silk tops with dark denim and a bomber jacket. Sometimes a little goes a long way, so work busier or brighter florals in small doses. Less potent patterns can be mixed with stripes and other prints. Over-do any flowery stitch though, and you're a poster for the local Garden Club...and Tiffani-Amber Theissen would not be impressed.

It's easy to compel yourself to try new trends casually, but don't be shy when dressing up, embrace the floral dresses. Breaking up the print with a belt or jacket and going low-key on the extras will keep your frock up to date, but still coolly classic.

For date night, cocktail parties, weddings or warm Summer Sunday brunches, a gal loves to bare her legs and show off her shoes. Nude patent pumps are the go-to favorite for lengthening your legs and letting your dress garner all of the applause, but gladiator sandals, booties and and ballet flats will let you take your botanical pieces from day-to-night for looks that are trendy, tribal or updated traditional.

Yeah, those ditsy floral patterns will have you ready for lunch at The Max or a hot date with Brandon Walsh... so why wouldn't you embrace all of Spring 2010's printed prettiness?

Red Carpet Crushing

Just recently, I was thinking about personal style, and how each of us develops it so young. I’ve always loved vintage-inspired pieces—ornate stud earrings, ultra feminine dresses. At age 6, my fashion icon was the 1964 Barbie my Grandmother bought me at an antique store. I couldn’t wait to grow up and dress like my vintage Barbie. Her clothes were gorgeous.

Today, I still respect Barbie’s MadMen-esque ensembles, but I also j’adore Rachel McAdams’ mix of fashion forward girl-next-door duds and vintage-y frocks. There’s chiffon and tulle and jewels… and then there’s tie-dyed cocktail dresses, dark-wash skinny jeans and silk oversized oxfords. The girl’s a gem, but never looks like she has to try.

Laura, who spins a little more Gossip Girl meets The OC, has built a wardrobe that’s cleaned up and classy, even when it’s casual. It’s a compilation of scarves and sundresses juxtaposed with structured mini-dresses and blazers, much like her style icon Rachel Bilson. First stealing our hearts with her sappy boyfriend and sweet summer dresses as Summer Roberts, Bilson’s style is classic, with just a smidge of edge.

Rebecca’s a sucker for the West Coast lifestyle, and really who could blame her? So, it’s fitting then that Kate Hudson takes the cake for Rebecca’s best dressed celebrity list. This Fashionista has an electic wardrobe of bohemian-chic pieces, trendy jumpsuits and a love for taking tee shirts high fashion. A girl after her own heart, Rebecca loves Hudson’s laissez faire flair.

Our own Californian, Jess, brings a bit of the West to the East, giving the East coast a jolt of fashion…like a certain other curly haired we all know. Carrie Bradshaw—fictional yes, but as real as an icon needs to be—turned heads all over New York city for years with her creatively coordinated outfits.

Long before Carrie Bradshaw, Bianca Jagger strut her stuff around London and New York as a Mick’s first wife, Warhol’s friend and Roy Halston’s muse. Bianca brought disco to fashion and fashion everywhere. Her stunning ensembles and piece-y outfits have made her Kara’s celebrity fashion icon.

I’ll close by saying that this has been one of my favorite blogs to write, and a big part of that was the fun of Tweeting and getting all of your responses. Many of our dear friends and customers @replied us with their favorites.

Color me happy... and tranquil, and tropical!

"Pantone is pleased to announce PANTONE 15-5519 Turquoise, an inviting, luminous hue, as the Color of the Year for 2010. Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, Turquoise inspires thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a comforting escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing." -Pantone, LLC.

Each year Pantone, the world renowned authority on all things color, announces one hue deemed "the color of the year." This past December, turquoise (15-5519) was named the 2010 Color of the Year. Evoking positive thoughts and appealing to both men and women, turquoise has become a popular color in both fashion and in the home. On mixing and matching with other tones, the Pantone website notes that, "Turquoise adds a splash of excitement to neutrals and browns, complements reds and pinks, creates a classic maritime look with deep blues, livens up all other greens, and is especially trend-setting with yellow-greens."

This season, turquoise and corals are taking the read-to-wear circuit at Crush by storm. Designers from Tracy Reese to Karen Zambos played up coral notes in their pieces, and contrasted this warm, alluring color with bits of bronze and turquoise.

For a strapless lighter coral like the Alice & Trixie "Dominique" dress, try a turquoise choker... but with the Karen Zambos "Cyia" dress, opt for dramatic drop earrings in that stunning shade of blue. For turquoise colored dresses like the French Connection "Olympic Frame" dress or the Alice + Olivia "Danny" dress, complete the look with coral studs and bangles... or stick simple with the jewelry, and go for the gold with a bright coral pump. With the Shoshanna "Shirred Strapless" dress, work in a pop of coral with a headband or clutch, for a look that's on trend, but impressively unassuming.

For a vintagey combinatin of these two colors, seee the Tracy Reese "Alix Beaded" dress or the Shoshanna "Beaded One-shoulder" in navy. Be it subtle or sassy, nothing screams vintage like a bold color combination in a sophisticated cut and rich fabric.

As March prepares to, hopefully, go out like a lamb... here's to hoping that Spring will be all we've hoped for: the perfect combination of feminine frills and nuevo nautical pieces in on-trend palates surrounding 15-5519.

A girl’s guide to my new favorite phenomenon: Karen Zambos Vintage Couture

Karen Zambos Vintage Couture has gone from Crush newcomer to Beacon Hill closet staple in a matter of weeks. I recently had the opportunity to meet Karen herself at a buying show in New York. If ever I’ve met someone whose creative artistry is truly self-expressive, it’s this woman. I’ll be blunt: she’s so cool.

I sound like a sixth grader who just met her favorite teenie-bopper pop star, but since her continuing to produce stunning dresses and separates directly impacts my day-to-day life… I’m willing to push on with my starstruckness.

Just a few short weeks ago her line debuted at Crush—after after months of anticipation, mind you; the six+ month lead time on buying is soooo hard when you’re impatient— with a slinky T-back black silk “Richie” dress with gold embroidery detail, a sweet 1940s-esqu “Plaid Project” A-line, and her signature burn-out tank (this version featuring necklace like chains).

Then, on Wednesday, Karen’s most recent delivery made Rebecca, Kara and I weak in the knees. Since I wasn’t actually working, I quickly grabbed a size in each piece and headed for the fitting room. The “Renee” top in watermelon has one of the best fits I’ve ever seen in a silk top, and stands out with a [very] deep v-back and chain detail. It’s just long enough to fall around your hips, rather than above or below them, which is vital in a backless top.

I’m never sure how batwings and narrowly cut hips will fall on my body type… but, and I’m not apologizing for how vain this may sound, my hips looked GREAT. I can report with confidence that donning the “Cyia” dress is how most of you will spend y our summer. Emitting a feel that’s very Charlie’s Angels meets Kate Hudson, it’s the perfect follow-up cocktail piece to the Richie dress from our first delivery.

And finally, there’s the “Jessica” dress. Metallic linen with un-obstructive ruffle detail makes for a piece that’s elegantly trendy in a way that Coco Chanel and Oleg Cassini would appreciate. In fact, it’s what I imagine Jackie Kennedy would wear to have tea with Michelle Obama on the White House lawn. Since that’s not likely to happen though, I’d suggest pairing it with red or hot pink open-toe pumps for a summer wedding.

Yes, ladies, Karen Zambos Vintage Couture is sure to be decorating the racks at CB for years to come.

Last Call: A Sale for Wardrobe Construction

Mark Twain, a pretty dapper dresser as I've heard, once said, "Clothes make the man.Naked people have little or no influence on society." Twain had no idea that in the twenty-first century, less would sometimes be more and that we'd spend a great deal of time begging our favorite pop stars to cover up, but he had a point. Anyone can be naked, anyone can just throw something on... but to make a mark on society, self expression is key, and there is no better time to build a wardrobe than during a sale.

Starting today, for our last weekend of Winter Sale, select items have been increased from 50% to 70% off. Pieces that were already significantly marked down have had their prices slashed even lower, and our sale section is bursting with beautiful goods. Succeeding at sale shopping can be a challenge though, especially on weekends when everyone and their brother is pulling at hangers. You've got to be tough, and you've got to have an idea of what you're doing before you head in.

When shopping a sale rack you want to do three things. First, ignore the size. If it looks like it might fit, try it on. Many a cocktail dress has gone to the sale rack because one letter or number caused it to be ignored. Next, consider the items your closet is lacking. Are you in short supply of silk tops? Is it your work wardrobe that needs some help? Essentials are different for everyone. If you entertain a lot, keep your eyes open for unique cocktail pieces. Likewise, if you wear a cardigan everyday, scoop up some beaded or embroidered pieces sweaters that stand out. Finally, don't be discouraged. If you're not finding anything, ask the sales staff. If anyone knows what gems lie amongst the crazed Saturday sale shoppers, it's the sales staff. For instance: if you're a Size 8 in need of cardigans and work tops, I've got a precious 525 America beaded cardigan and a silk Parker blouse in mind. Size 2, seeking cocktail dresses and basic tanks? There's a stunning velvet and wool Ali Ro dress (for less than $150!) and an array of basic tees and tanks on sale for $40 and under.

Origami: Spring fashion and the art of Chinese paper folding

Try as I might, I’ve never been good at origami… and believe me, I’ve tried. Those little pieces of colored paper are clean little slates, waiting to be transformed into beautiful flowers, birds, fish, etc. The possibilities are endless, but the only thing I can turn a 4x4 sheet of paper into is a fortune teller—the kind you make in middle school to determine who you should take to the Sadie Hawkins dance. Even with my limited paper folding abilities though, I am able to speak confidently on your fortune for spring: origami pleated dresses are all the rage.

There’s something so pretty about fabric that’s tucked, layered, twirled and gathered. Pleats and ruffles make getting dressed seam [pun so very intended] so easy, and there’s nothing a gal loves more than looking like she doesn’t try. Of course, there’s also the added femininity of these cuts that’s been a requirement in your spring wardrobe since your first pink and yellow rosette Easter dress. Fortunately, you can skip the bonnet and the bloomers now.

Spring dresses from Alice + Olivia, Ali Ro, Max and Cleo, Frock! by Tracy Reese and Plastic Island are adopting the pleats, ruffles and rosettes that weaken my knees, but up the level of sophistication with chic strappy backs, short tulip skirts and delicately tailored waistlines. Oh, and an aside to legs: It’s time to come out of hibernation.

[Fall]ing: For Leather and Lace...oh, and also mesh and french terry

This past week, Laura, Rebecca and I bustled about Coterie, D&A and Sole Commerce perusing the Fall 2010 collections and taking note of what you'll see in-store and on the streets this Fall. Attending my first buying show was an amazing experience. Between catching a sneak peak at Fall and writing our orders for July, August and September and meeting some of my favorite designers, I can honestly say that my job is far too much fun.

While I don't want to ruin the surprise, here's what I can report back:

Year after year we hang onto the ways the cultural zeitgeist inspires the way the world speaks, behaves, and most importantly for us, dresses. In a post-economic downturn era where the Democratic Party has gained the upper-hand, the workplace has become more casual, logos are disappearing from handbags and wallets, and flannel, leather and french terry have taken over the Fall fashion. Get excited now to cozy up with comfortable, yet fashion-forward, pieces.

For both work and play, Boston tends to clean up nicely. Bostonians love dress pants, button downs and pearls the way Los Angelistas love sandals and maxi dresses, and that's why Fall's juxtaposition of leather, ponte, french terry and flannel with lace, mesh and fine silks will fit our fine little city like a [leather] glove.

Last year, zippers exposed on heavy black fabrics represented a sense of rebellion in the fashion world. This coming Fall, however, the sharpness of these edgy looks has been softened. Leather jackets have soft curves, ponte leggings feature rich leather and suede paneling, florals are big and blossoming and french terry sweaters with lace and mesh detail bring us from Kurt Cobain to 90210.

Prints are all the rage as florals, tribals, and plaids clean up with softer cuts and details, but remain tough with leather edging. Even cardigans are cool for Fall... while drapey-ness remains, equestrian detailing sophisticates ultra casual cuts. For dresses, mesh, sequins and raw edge silks feminize edgier leather and ponte bodies.

We caught up with friends, and the looks, at Alice + Olivia, Paul & Joe Sister, Rory Beca, Karen Zambo, Amanda Uprichard, Parker, BB Dakota and many more, and also introduced ourselve to some new lines that'll hit CB this Summer. Soon enough our favorite lines will hang between new additions. We can't wait to get our first deliveries from Pavionne, Sine, Parameter, Ramona LaRue, Rails and JJ Winters. It should prove to be a very exciting Autumn at Crush Boutique.

...In fact, I don't think I've ever been more excited for Fall...

So what were our favorite trends?

Ignoring Phil: A Healthy Dose of Crushinism

Crushinism: (crush-n-ism) noun.
A dedicated, religious-like belief to treating yourself and indulging in your [Crush]. Popular among young women in the Greater Boston Area, Crushinism is the brainchild of fashionistas and feminists.

Well folks, Punxsutawney Phil did it again last week. That little critter predicted not one, not two, but six more weeks of winter...Ten bucks says he's actually blind, and the shadow thing is a cover-up for keeping us bundled up through Fashion Week.... you know, with the general idea being that we'll fall harder for the Fall collections if we're freezing while perusing the look books. If this is in fact the case, little Phil deserves Anna Wintour's job...

Since it's not likely though that the illusive goddess of Vogue is leaving her post any time soon, I'm not going to start listening to Phil just yet. In fact, I'm going to embrace the Spring deliveries that are sliding onto the hangers at Crush. Forget the winter clothes, ladies, my new strategy is winterizing my new Spring clothes... I can't wait any longer.

So in honor of Phil and his undesirabe visions, here are some simple ways to winterize my favorite spring pieces on the racks at Crush...

So don't pine away for Spring, get into the swing now. Phil opinions need not interfere... he's a man, what does he know about Spring dresses? He doesn't understand how hard it is to wait for skirts and silks and sandals! And after all, my faithful fashionistas, it's the dreariest of days when we need the brightest of treats, and clothes, well clothes my friends, were meant to be worn and loved... every season.

The modern woman keeps sweaters in her stove and scarves in her bicycle basket

Carrie Bradshaw, a girl after our own hearts, didn't know anything about kitchens...she kept sweaters in her stove. While this may not be the best use of an electrical appliance that could catch fire at any time, you've got to give her this: she recognized her hatred for cooking and her undesirable amount of closet space. Then, given these things, Bradshaw merchandised her clothing accordingly.

Being subterranean doesn't make for the easiest retail location. Baby carriages are a challenge, puppies have been known to slide down those icy bricks, and each day I pray that Mike, our dear UPS man, won't plummet cardboard box over tea kettle down the stairs, but being underground does have its benefits. For instance, it challenges us to harness the charm of our space by finding ways to spruce up our cozy little cavern.

And so recently when I coerced Rebecca and Laura into a furniture store whilst looking for a cupcake tree, and we stumbled upon a gorgeous piece of furniture [an antiqued iron bicycle!] we just had to have it. You see, there's really nothing Rebecca loves more than a new bicycle... it was a sign from the visual merchandising gods that it was time for us to revamp! We instantly got in touch with our inner domestic goddesses and picked out all new furniture, paint swatches and decorating accessories.

You may be wondering, how does one merchandise with a bicycle, a gardening cart and zebra striped trunks? I'll respond by saying this: I don't know anything about riding antiqued iron bicycles, I keep Love Quotes Scarves and Daftbirds on mine...

Buttery Soft + Unassuming = The Laidback Look of Hollywood Icons

We at Crush have some celeb fashionista favorites that walk the red carpet by night and strut their stuff down shopping pathways across the country the next morning. Glammed up goddesses they may sometimes be, but our favorite looks come when they're not even trying... or at least, trying to look like they're not trying.

Now, it's no secret that we'd love to sip cocktails and spill our inner-most-secrets with the cast of Gossip Girl, we live for Blair's gorgeous headbands and ultra fem looks, Serena's sky high heels and ahead of the trend ensembles, but this week we're crushing on a different cast, a breed unto themselves: the LA ladies that, like us, swoon for LNA and are stepping out to model their super soft, understated and yet, so sexy cotton duds.

While I'm always a fan of basics, LNA cleans up like no other. Stars like Kristen Cavallari, Kim Kardashian, Nicole Richie, Megan Fox, Whitney Port, Kate Moss, the Olsen twins and Isla Fisher are fans of the 100% cotton basics that feel like a baby blanket and fit like a glove. From boyfriend tees to zippered leggings the cuts, even when oversized, drape the way they should. Our favorite cut though: the short sleeve deep crew neck tee with zipper pocket.

I have the azul. Kara has the azul. Come to think of it Kara also has petal. I'm currently in painful need of the black (my "azul" has been taken hostage at my parents house, perhaps by a little sister???). Rebecca has a bright red with exposed lace back. Actually, in reality, the entire staff are fans... well you know, all five of us. The scoop neck is flirty, the boyfriend length is ultra flattering, and the cast of colors brings to mind a certain Rolling Stones song-- She's Like a Rainbow, anyone?--.

After meeting on the Hollywood social circuit, the girls discovered their shared love of wearing their boyfriends' tee shirts for everything from day-to-day tasks to nights out at trendy hotspots. Helping Haiti, it's been an honor

There are times when I'm very grateful for the things and people in my life. Despite the growing pit in my stomach over graduating this May, I can honestly say that I have a great many wonderful things in my life. It is on these occasions that "Suddenly I See" by KT Tunstall plays in my head as I roll my Spanx tights up my legs and slide my feet into heeled boots, just the way that the cast of The Devil Wears Prada does during the intro. Surely you've seen the film, and therefore you know that the girls in the movie are said to have "the job a million girls would die for." And perhaps it's true, I get up each day to work for two women that are truly living their dream. I can attest to the pride they take in their work, as well as how hard they work behind the scenes for their achievements, but more than that even, just how grateful they are for the opportunities they've had to create, succeed in and share their dream with others. And so, when tragedy strikes others, it is an honor for us to do our part to help others to rebuild their lives, their homes and their dreams.

In an attempt to aid those less fortunate or in need, we try to take all opportunities to support charities, causes and those who make it their mission to help others. Just recently, an entire country was struck by tragedy when a natural disaster took many lives and destroyed countless others. Haitian men, women and children are coping with a loss that many of us cannot even imagine. Orphans are being uprooted and transported to other countries, out of the disaster zone and to safe, happy havens.

Those who remain though will struggle through physical and emotional pain and depend on the aid of neighboring countries and of the world's most powerful nations. In an attempt to do our part, 10% of this weekend's sales (Friday through Sunday) will be donated through the American Red Cross to victims of the Haitian earthquake.

Relief comes in many forms, and we are so very appreciative for those of you who in-store or online purchases this weekend for your helpinig us to help Haiti.

Renew[year], Refresh, Resort... In Color.

There's nothing girls love more than something that is new, which explains why girls love things that are fresh... it's really quite re-fresh-ing. Freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, freshly applied lip gloss, freshly beach bronzed cheeks, freshly arrived look books for upcoming seasons... or maybe that's just us. Each of these things brightens our day and gives us that weak-in-the-knees, first crush feeling, but the one that really makes us over at Crush blush: fresh flowers.

Resort this year is anything but the safari-esque khaki shirtdresses that the name signifies, so you can imagine how in a store full of girls gaga for all things bold and bright we've turned up the heat and pulled out our shades in honor of this magnificent fun (in between using windshield wiper fluid to de-ice the store window, of course). Punchy colors and floral prints have us head-over-tea kettles. Crush has gone from winter wonderland to island oasis in a matter of days, and no one is complaining.

Another Auld Lang Syne...

In 2009, Crush drafted 50+ blog posts, held upwards of 20 events, tweeted almost 200 times, employed 4 girls, and helped a lot of women pick out a lot of dresses. There’s a lot to recap as we await the fireworks that will ring in 2010, but in an effort to make you all nostalgic, I’ll give it a go.

I’ll quick and dirty the beginning of the year, because this underground fashion lair wasn’t yet my home away from home... In January, the blogosphere helped to determine Laura’s birthday dress. In February, the lovely ladies of G2O Salon and Spa spruced up our friends and customers for their Valentine’s Day dates. March brought eco-friendly looks to CB and sent Laura and Rebecca to speak for the young ladies of Delta Gamma at Boston University. Then, in April, we celebrated our Second Anniversary! (Can you imagine what the party for year five will be like???) Next, Jess joined the team bringing a wave of west coast inspired summer styles along with her.

When I started in May, Laura and Rebecca were prepping for wedding season, The Sparkle II Charity Fashion Show, a Shop/Sip/Save event and rompers. While the girls hit the wedding scene, Jess, Emily and I held down the fort. We spent the summer playing sartorialists and concierges, taking in trends from the tourists and directing traffic to the patio at Alibi, the Esplanade for fireworks, Fashionably Lates at The Liberty, Sox games and the Boston Harbor Islands.

As the summer drew to an end, Jess prepared for Paris and Emily hung up her Crush shoes for a 9 to 5, but first, we held our own Fashionably Late for which Rebecca and Laura landed themselves on the Improperazzi page and were interviewed by NESN. All dolled up and so much to do, we watched our Crush models zip around the lobby at The Liberty, coated in stage lights and runway looks.

All good things must come to an end though, and summer did. The wedding season wrapped up just in time for Rebecca and Laura to head too Manhattan to buy for Spring (the pieces are just starting to arrive!), and place our first orders for shoes. They brought back boots, ballet flats and platform pumps, and with Kara onboard, we headed towards the Holidays.

Rebecca looooves Halloween, so at Crush, the Holidays start mid-October. Crush was decorated to the nines with pumpkins and skulls and candy galore. We threw a Halloween Party at the store that involved playing dress up with new clothes, as opposed to dressing up and some delicious apple cider from Wilson’s Farm in Lexington.

As the rest of the holidays approached, we pulled out the snowflakes and holly tissue paper and garnished gifts with cinnamon sticks and holly. The festivities at the store were bountiful, as was the fun, between our Finally Fridays with The Liberty Hotel and The Beacon Hill Holiday Stroll.

Wow, this is getting long… consider this an overdue Christmas letter. Ohhhhh, maybe next year we’ll send one of those!?

As we swing into 2010, here’s where we stand: Rebecca, who this year became our official online store photographer and maintained her position as lead light bulb changer, is preparing for a trip to New Orleans and longing for the days of silk blouses and sandals. Laura spent 2009 perfecting her internet marketing abilities and between http://www.shopcrushboutique.com/, our Google AdWords and learning Photoshop, she’s become a regular techie… but you know, with swanky clothes. Kara loves RAs and special orders more than anything, except maybe House of Harlow, and is expected to continue opening boxes of new merchandise like a kid on Christmas morning (too soon to bring up THAT holiday again?) Jess will return January 15^th and with her trends from Paris and LA ought to be trickling in. Me? Well, after I finish this post, I’m going to upload some photos of a snow covered Crush Boutique to Facebook and determine the appropriate bra to wear with the new Chelsea Flower top tomorrow...

When it snows, ain't it thrilling?

It's that time of year again, the time when we're all ready to trade in our winter coats and brownstones for bathing suits and beach houses. And yet, we'll keep on trucking. From January and into February, we'll dress like Eskimos and snow shoe to work... gah.

Why so cheery then, you ask? Whelp, (and yes, I did in fact say whelp, that’s wasn’t a typo) it’s because if I lived anywhere else, I’d miss some things about the Hub in winter: 1) sweaters, 2) boots and 3) scarves/gloves. I can’t stand the cold. I hate it so much that I often put my towels, gloves, sweaters, pajamas, socks, etc. on the radiator until they soak up the warmth and coziness I so desire after my very long, tumultuous 3 ½ minute commute home from Crush.

In light of the cold, and my will to combat it in the most exciting of ways—with winter clothes, here are some picks to keep you and your loved ones toasty warm this holiday season:

Pink: Not just the color of your nose this winter...

Six months ago, InStyle told us that the LBD (little black dress) was now the LBD (little bright dress), and while, as a girl that loves color and works in a boutique I didn't need them to tell me that, I was pleased that they'd made this knowledge well known.

Trends move fast though and I'd like to make an amendment: The go to eye-popping, stop 'em dead in their tracks, holiday pretty, super sexy go to color is... (drumroll please) ... MAGENTA. Now, magenta's been working it's way up since the Nick Jr. people got together during my early years and named Blue's best friend after that bold pink color, but this is really it's year. Cerulean had it's turn, and gold and silver always get theirs, but this year: I'm choosing to campaign for a color that even the folks at Crayola get nervous over.

Ever since our grandmothers started burning their bras, pink's been a little bit of a outcast. Pink is for babies, pink for is prepsters, pink is for babies who will grow up to be prepsters... that's all I hear from some women. Has no one noticed that pink is HOT this year? Central Park West, Tracy Reese, Parker and Rory Beca have all done their part to show you that pink, can be one of the edgiest colors around. Pink is now for grown up girls too, and I for one refuse to let this revolution pass me by. Who's with me?

Take a deep, cleansing, courageous breath... and trust me when I am so forward as to say that pink, my friends, is the new black... And who knows more about the importance of the LBD than you?

I'll be the first to agree that Coco Chanel was the most influential female designer of the 20th century, but we so often forget to pay our respects to Mary Quant. By popularizing color block dresses, the mini skirt and florals, donning the signature Vidal Sassoon cut and sweeping through swinging sixties London with the likes of Twiggy and Patti Boyd, Quant made fashion as much fun as catching The Beatles on Ed Sullivan... well, maybe.

A half century later, we're still inspired by all things mod. I'm a sucker for beaded daisies, flashy prints, mini skirts, tunics with tights and above all, colors that warrant their own box of crayolas.

This week at Crush we won the vintage-inspired lottery, just in time for the Holidays. Yesterday, we were blessed with boxes upon boxes of Tracy Reese and Ali Ro, and this morning, dear old Mike bestowed upon us three magnificent Frock! by Tracy Reese pieces.

The sequined Ali Ro tank mini-dress in Midnight Navy and Caviar screams New Years Eve. It's truly a show stopper and the sheer underlay adds a flapper detail. Go simple on the gems and sleek on the hair.

The Velvet and Wool Ali Ro goes from day, with tights and boots, to night, with lacy tights and sky high pumps. The empire waist and huggy wool cling to the bodice, and not to mention the hips, in a way that's very Mad Men meets Sex and the City. A word to the wise, the Jones' and the Bradshaws' would wear it with strappy ankle booties for runway appeal.

The Tracy Reese beaded Plaster tee is silky and multi-seasonal, but very chic. Now with jeans and boots, later with navy skinnies and cork wedges. See you as the snow falls, and soon enough, on the shore!

The Embellished Brushstroke Print Chemise is the kind of silk dress you'll never take off. Rock with a chignon, textured nude tights, and nude patent pumps... let the dress keep the spotlight. The beading around the neck drives attention to your sparkling holiday smile.

And then there's the Frock! The magenta embroidered silk tunic has a scoop back and ruched sleeves. Black tights, over-the-knee boots, and super straight hair... Quant would be oh so proud.

The off-black Miranda dress is sweet enough for work and sharp enough for play. Camel boots or red-orange pumps and your favorite vintage clip on earrings. Strolling in a Winter Wonderland

It's the most wonderful time of the year: the few weeks before the Holiday stroll when we decorate, create our Christmas song playlists, dress the mannequin up like an eskimo and get ready to shovel the steps. We're planning our champagne cocktail, putting the finishing touches on the small bites menu and preparing the invitations. Crush Boutique has transformed into Santa's workshop, and we four little elves have been very busy.

Join us on December 10th from 5pm-9pm to celebrate the holidays with cocktails, carriage rides and carollers. The lighting of the tree at the corner of Mt. Vernon and Charles Streets will take place at 7pm. The Hill House will be offering pictures with Santa Clause from 3:30pm-6:45pm.

How to: Stuff a Stocking with Stylish Supplies

There's nothing I love more than wrapping presents. Some of my favorite days at Crush are when the UPS guy brings a box of tissue paper. It may not sound like much, but opening a box and finding leaf print tissue, or bold red with sparkles, or a Hawaiian floral print, is a blast. Each and every time we wrap something up, it's like giving a present. It really is just so much fun. New wrapping supplies spice up our bags and add to the festive fun of the holiday season. We love picking out the wrapping paper, choosing the bows, and digging out the faux holly berries that will add a special touch. You can imagine then the elation that actually wrapping Christmas presents brings us.

So here we are at the end of November, making our lists, checking them twice and wrapping up treats for those who've been, perhaps a bit naughty, but mostly nice. My personal favorite way to package up parcels is to stuff them Mary-Poppins-bottomless-carpet-bag-style into stockings. An old, but super fun, tradition, stockings possess all of the Christmas traits I adore. There's the soft, velvety red fabric that's reminiscent of Santa's suit. There's the fuzzy white trim that looks like snow. And then: there are the names. In multi-colored glitter glue from the mall (or perhaps a Christmas specialty store) it's a symbol of home. Home is where you hang your hat, it's where you lay your head, it's where you nail your personalized stocking to the mantle.

So how do we stuff a stocking at Crush? Well, we incorporate a lot of little things. Since we're subterranean, we really know how to maximize space...

Christmas Comes Early to Crush!

We'll admit, that we say this a lot. In fact, our favorite Facebook status is some variation of "Christmas came early at Crush! New Shoshanna, Ali Ro, Alice + Olivia, etc." We say it in Spring, we say it in Summer, we say it in Autumn, just about any time we get a ton of new stuff (the equivalent of more than five new designers/pieces/boxes) in one day. Hmmm, give me a minute, I'm day dreaming of what Mike may bring tomorrow. For the few of you who don't know, Mike is our handy UPS man. We wait for him with bated breath every day. He usually arrives around noon, so if you stop in frequently, you might keep that in mind.

This isn't about Mike though, nor is it about new stuff. It's about a new look, a new spirit, a new sense of hot pink pride bursting out of our ears that stems from two things: a new website that went live about ten minutes ago, and some recent buildout at the store. We've got a new online look that's bright, bold, and very, very fierce and an in-store nook for shoes, as well as a floor to ceiling denim unit that's now organized by style. It's never been easier to find your second skin at Crush. We're so happy we won't ask Santa for anything now... well, maybe.

Shopcrushboutique.com has been revamped for easy web browsing. It's now more fun than ever to keep up on recent Crush press, our picks of the week and the shopping services we offer.

In store, we're curling up on the couch with shoes from Miz Mooz and Madden Girl that we've pulled off our new lily pad shelving. Also adorning our “soleful” corner, another mannequin ready to rock holiday party dresses for our favorite season. Pop over to the other side of the couch to cozy up in our new denim corner... we'll be there soaking it all up like sun on a summer day.

We'd like to take the opportunity to thank Tom Foisset, our contractor, and Ani Avanian, our web designer, for their diligent work and their talent in understanding Crush, what it means to us, and what we think it means to you. They were able to creatively express Crush perfectly, and for that we're very grateful.

Additionally though, I want to congratulate on these new successes two incredibly talented women who deserve endless accolades for all that they do. Together Laura and Rebecca set out to start their own business at only 24-years-old and have done a phenomenal job of cultivating a boutique and a brand that we’ve all come to know and love. Updates to the store and site display their vast array of talents and dedication. They should be very proud of themselves.

There's been a dress for every fairy tale ending...

Once upon a time, a beautiful maiden had a [insert your last minute event here] to attend. While she had a closet full of beautiful dresses, she didn’t quite want to wear any of them. The beautiful maiden scurried about the city searching for the perfect piece. Finally, she stumbled upon a hidden palace… sunk below the ground in an old brick building, painted cream and pink and black inside. In awe, but still stressing, she hunted about, until one sweet sales girl found her the perfect dress in which to go out…

The rest, as they say, is history… but history tends to repeat itself. The reality is: we’ve all been there. We’ve gotten desperate, we’ve worried we won’t find anything. We’ve struggled for the perfect fit, color or cut. Fortunately, over the past couple of years the hangers at Crush have come to our rescue. While our current personal favorites include a pink Tracy Reese, a sequined Alice + Olivia and a lace under-layer Madison Marcus, we tend to say: “What is cuter than this?” each time that a new piece arrives.

No doubt then, you’ve established your own Crush favorites over time, which is why we’d like to invite you to share those with us. It’s a little project I’ve been brainstorming since May that we shall henceforth call, “The Crush Hall of Fame.” Our Hall of Fame will appear on the blog, and also in-store in the form of a scrapbook. We have a lot of books, it’s likely your husbands and boyfriends who hang out on the couch have read them all, but none that share our history, and you… and the dresses you’ve worn, are that history.

Sure, I could pull the pictures from the online store or scan the past two-and-a-half years of purchase orders, but what would be the fun in that? We cherish the memories we’ve made in the store, dressing you, dressing ourselves, and swapping stories about our lives. We’d like you to be able to do the same…

Halloween puts the biggest smiles on the smallest of faces <3

Every year, Halloween is a pretty big deal at Crush. The candy, the cider, the costumes, and the festive spirit that encompasses all of Charles Street… we love it all. Hands down though, the best part is the trick-or-treaters. While many of you shared plans for costumes that we’d never have come up with, there’s one very small crushette whose costume really stole our hearts.

Emma is our youngest customer, by far. She’s also our shortest, our silliest, and the one who spends the most time remerchandising. At five-years-old, Emma totes her nanny (our good friend and former Crush employee, Laura) and her backpack into Crush on a daily basis. On the rare occasion that Laura isn’t by her side, Emma visits Crush with either her mom or grandma.

Clad in her navy blue school uniform jumper, pink striped tights and a baseball cap, Emma brings a smile into the store each time she drops in, and always, always, always models the new accessories for us.

She came to our Trick-or-Treat event, she helped unwrap the new fall tissue paper, and just the other day, Emma dropped in to show off her Little Mermaid costume for a Halloween party. Laura gussied her up with the Rockstar Red Cosmoholic lipgloss, and Kara and I pulled together a little Crush Trick-or-Treat bag, complete with ribbons and sparkly seaweed.

When you have a cold home remedies do wonders, if only because they make you feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. Crush’s Novemberrrrrr Cure for the Cold and Common Cold will make you feel all warm and fuzzy on the outside…
Combine parts:
30% Cashmere
70% Wool
One gold chain
2 patch pockets

Stir until you’ve reached desired consistency.
Walk home.
Remove from Crush bag.
Wrap sweater around you.

In a separate cup:
Add one tea bag to hot [not boiling] water
Add three drops of honey, and enjoy! [optional]

Denim: Destructed, Destroyed... It's Delightful, Delicious, Delovely

If you were around in June, then you probably remember when the Paige Premium Denim Jimmy Faith boyfriend jeans came in. You likely recall that they were scary at first... but that the way they lit up Laura's face was like a kid in a candy store and that you tried them on because she insisted. They looked good. Destroyed denim may not have looked so good since you alternated between Kurt-Cobain-esque jeans and Amy Byer dresses... but there you were, standing in he mirror with a fitted white tee, blazer and super sexy heels. Destructed denim was downright sexy again, and soon, a pair of Red Engines in a light wash sliced denim soared into our hearts.

Fast forward to this afternoon: the JBrand destroyed skinnies, the dark cadet blue wash JBrands and the Paige destroyed pencil legs are in... they ALL arrived today in fact. By the time I sauntered in between classes at 4:30pm, Kara already had them on and Laura was bustling about merchandising them like it was her job...

The JBrand dark vintage wash with a 12inch leg opening is always flattering, but with a bit of destruction, they're edgier than ever. Pair with a black boyfriend blazer and white tee shirt, then polish off with long necklaces and knee-high boots.

The JBrand midrise straight leg in the tyro wash feature a 16inch leg opening that falls perfectly over sky high pumps, and go from work to play with a silk blouse or fitted sweater.

The Paige destroyed skinnies offer their signature Peg leg cut in the Rebel wash. Ballet flats and a bomber jacket, anyone? Or maybe a black cashmere sweater and bold Avoca scarf.

Fierce meets feminine this season and the leather and lace trend has worked it's way into denim too. We love the super tight fit in really dark washes, there's nothing more flattering... but add some pizazz with some slicing and dicing here and there and you're the bees [exposed by ripped jeans] knees in no time.

Love it? We sure do.

Top o' the Autumn to You

We at Crush are an enthusiastic breed [especially during the changing of the seasons, our favorite shopping times!], and with raw Boston winds and frosty finger tips approaching, we're preparing for the season of bundling up with smiles on our faces, pink on our noses, and snowflake inspired twinkles in our eyes. To ready ourselves we're curling up in our favorite new Irish knits from Avoca. This family owned brand in small stores across the United States and The Emerald Isle has been creating beautifully crafted scarves for almost three hundred years. In addition their cozy knits collections, Avoca manufactures soft furnishings for the home such as throws and baby blankets. Wrapping up in these brightly colored, lambswool scarves brings us back to our Moms stuffing us into our snowsuits with Irish-knit sweaters and woolen mittens...or maybe that was just me.

Cashmere and Angora mixes in pinks, blues, greens and reds serve as heartwarming pops of color to keep you toasty, and are fetching enough to wear all day... sure beats the wearing-the-same-winter-sweater-in-the-office-everyday-blues.

So pop in to cozy up with some Crushettes, Rebecca will likely still be sans winter coat and Laura most certainly be cozied up in that precious new vintage inspired 525 America. The underground fashion lair we fondly refer to as CB is bursting the seams with gorgeous beaded dresses one-of-a-kind necklaces, and our newest obsession: an Alice + Olivia sequin strapless dress with striped ruffle skirt (it took an army to convince Brianne that she couldn't wear it to class).

Cider Donuts and a Bottle of White: A Luscious Autumn at Crush <3

This past Wednesday we celebrated Rebecca's favorite holiday with a Crush Trick-or-Treat. The tricks were far and few between, though there were some absolutely hilarious moments. The treats were aplenty. Apple cider, pumpkin bread, white wine, banana nut loaf, cider donuts, candy, kettle corn, and Crush dresses were bountiful. We had so much fun playing dress up with our customers and friends. A new line for us, Haven, arrived just in time, as did some precious Two-fers from Parker and Plastic Island, not to mention a very hippie chic silk blouse from Jenny Han.

We got to spend time with so many of our favorite customers, dress some new faces, get caught up on current events in one another's lives and share drinks with close friends and Beacon Hill neighbors. We were thrilled as ever to see the Julep girls, Rachel Kichli (Brookline) even served a few glasses of wine for us, which Rachel Wentworth (Harvard Square) did some modeling around the store while she tried on clothes. You've got to love comrades in retail.

Fall is by far my favorite season to dress for. I live for woolen coats, my favorite cashmere vest, opaque tights and bulky sweaters. All summer Rebecca and I were urging you to take your summer dresses from sun to snow with brown tights and cognac boots. Now, here we are. Pumpkin spice lattes in hand, we're waiting each day with bated breath for Mike, the UPS guy, to see what delicious cozy treats he'll bring that afternoon. Long sleeved tunics, sweater dresses, Spanx tights and new fall handbags have been the pick me up for the cold I'm trying to beat... oh and the fact that Laura and Rebecca have a sunkissed glow while Kara and myself are the color of, hmmm: snow.

This week Crush is bursting with new bags from Urban Expressions, Big Buddha, Melie Bianco, and a new collection for us, BCBGeneration handbags. Raw edges, chain details, vegan fabrics, studs, fringe, fierce hardware and exposed zipper closures and decor are turning heads and making friends with us, and with our customers. Who doesn't love feminine pieces with rockstar flair? So edgy, yet still so girl next door.

LA Lady, Blue Jean Baby...

Cameron Diaz is our favorite dresser this week, because when it comes to denim it's not always about trends or washes, it's about having a second layer of skin that flatters our curves and lifts our spirits. We have them hemmed, wash them inside out, struggle for hours in fitting room after fitting room in search of the perfect pair and somehow, it's all worth it. We remind ourselves that cost-per-wear is our best friend... we'll wear some dresses just once before the seasons have changed, but a good pair of denim will last us for years... and can handle the growing pains we meet along the way.

The editors at People Magazine are on the same page, and recently named Diaz among their best dressed. She took the crown for denim, and her stylist reported, "Cameron is the ultimate denim girl-- it's what she feels the most herself in." We agree, so as we slide our skinnies into boots, uncuff our boyfriend jeans, and pick up our freshly hemmed newbies for fall at Clevergreen, we're taking a note from our favorite girl-next-door, and planning denim looks that she pioneered and continues to rock.

Our picks for fall: Raven Denim trousers, black and grey J Brand skinnies, and sliced and destroyed Red Engines. Pair with silk blouses, drapey cardigans and racerback tanks.

Rule of thumb: If you're donning a voluminous top, wear more tapered bottoms. Too much fabric looks frumpy, so balance tops and bottoms. Example: Trousers should meet with tailored tops, but skinny jeans can handle more material on top. To avoid looking like a ragamuffin, destroyed denim becomes sophisticated and stylish with a dressier tops, like the Central Park West piece pictured here, or the polka dot top our Denim Diva wore.

Fashion Week(s)

First and foremost, we'd like to dedicate this blog to Vicky Savio. Vicky has been a longtime friend of Laura and Rebecca, as well as the Julep ladies. I've been fortunate enough to have gotten to know Vicky over the past few months. She's very sweet, but perhaps our favorite thing about her, is how diligent she is when it comes to reading the Crush blog. It's flattering, and actually a bit of an honor, to have friends who care so much about Crush and who have taken such a vested interest in the daily goings on of the store. I'd even go so far as to call Vicky one of our biggest fans. Thanks Vicky, and thank you to all of our girlfriends who love Crush just as much as we do, we certainly wouldn't have this much fun without you.

On a somewhat less sappy note, Nicole Richie had her second baby this week, and we'd like to make it clear that while we've very happy for her, that has nothing to do with why we're picking up her line. No, I'm not talking about the one for Pea in the Pod.... we're picking up House of Harlow. The jewelry line, named for her daughter, is cooly bohemian, in a sexy vintage rocker kind of way.

House of Harlow 1960 isn't the only treat L & R brought us back though... other new lines joining the racks at Crush Boutique: Marc Bernstein, Kettle Black, Karen Zambos, B-low the Belt, and... (my beloved) Matt & Nat.

Marc Bernstein is easily described in in the following slang sentence: "His designs are really sick." Frankly, they are... these rope-like triple wrap bracelets are made from sterling silver or 18K gold and leather. We love motorcycle inspired accessories this fall, and these pieces have Rebecca glowing. Bernstein's line was created after he was asked to design pirate-inspired accessories for a French Vogue shoot. Now, what's more fashion forward than that? We love, just LOVE.

Kettle Black apparel is sexy in a very masculinity inspired way... we're talking easy button downs, flannel, plaid, motorcycle jackets... all the pieces that somehow sex up our denim this fall. It feels kind of like that 1980s too cool for school highschool crush that we all had... or you know, would have had if we'd been in high school then.

Karen Zambos: where do I start? Crush has an affinity for all things vintage... I blame (and love) Marisa Perry for that. In two words: VINTAGE COUTURE. You know that princess feeling you get when you put on a glamorous 1940s dress in a thrift store, or maybe a tiara?... imagine that, only it's now available all the time at Crush and isn't just for special occasions.

I'm now going to point out the obvious: B-low the Belt, is a (wait for it) ... belt line. It's not just any belt line though, it's lambskin and snakeskin and everything's made in LA. We love lines that are made in the USA, and we know that many of you do too. We can't wait for our first shipment.

If I've kept your attention this long, I'd like to say a word for Matt & Nat. We Crushettes are not vegetarian, but we really love vegan accessories. Matt & Nat balances design and social responsibility, something that we think really sets them apart from other luxury handbag lines.

That was Laura and Rebecca's week. While the girls were jaunting around Manhattan at Coterie, Kara and I held down the fort, and had our own personal Fashion Week, smack in the middle of New York's and Boston's. We used our time to put up a new press clippings bulletin board, pull together a denim looks spread in honor of Cameron Diaz (who was recently named Best Dressed: Denim, by People Magazine), photograph all of our new merchandise and fall in love with the new Priorities blazers-- maybe one of them is already hanging in my closet, maybe.

Meet Kara: A Crush Story about Fall and Falling for New Loves

Fall is in full gear and we're finally getting the chance to bundle up in the fall shipments that started arriving over a month ago. There's nothing we love more than fall clothes, but this year has been especially exciting.

In addition to new jeans, sweaters and scarves, we're obsessing over the newest addition to the Crush family, Kara Aberizk. Kara joined the Crush team just two short weeks ago, but she's donning Ettika bracelets and updating the online store like a card carrying Crushette. We LOVE: her new Elizabeth and James boots, the fact that she (like us) needs her Starbucks intravenously, her Item of the Day picks and the way she plays dress up with us like it's her job... you know, since it is.

Fortunately for us, Kara loves apple cider as much as the next girl and has been busy helping us plan our next big fall event. In the meantime: she and Laura will be serving up mimosas Sunday afternoon from 12pm-6pm at Crush. Beacon Hill doesn't need another brunch, and we certainly can't cook, but there's nothing more fun than a champagne event at 131 Charles. Plus, we like to spend our Sundays trying on clothes and catching up with our girlfriends and this is definitely the most fun way to do that.

In other news, we're just about to burst over:
1. Our new outdoor mannequin.
2. Those black J Brands, yes we're still dying over how flattering they are.
3. The excitement of a new www.shopcrushboutique.com! Our web developer is working tirelessly, and we can't wait for the finished project.
4. New press! Lucky for November, Improperazzi pictures from Fashionably Late, and credits in local Boston magazines and the big fashion publications are causing us to beg the question: where's the Crush reality television series?
5. You! Summer's over, but autumn days at Crush are alive with the regular customers who spent summer weekends sailing and sunning. A few tourists linger on, and we love to meet new faces and make new friends, but hardcore shopping missions have returned and right now everyone wants: new skinnies, dresses that swing from work to play, ethnic inspired and eco-friendly sweaters and jewelry, LA Made long sleeved tees in every color for layering, and our absolute favorite accessory trend: sassy, bejeweled, feathered, Blair Waldorf inspired headbands.

August was a big month at Crush, our Fashion Show at The Liberty Hotel was huge success, we sent Jessica off to Paris, began receiving fall shipments, and did some serious d.i.y. home improvement in the store.

Fashionably Late on August 20th was certainly the highlight of our summer. Runway models strutted Crush goodies around the lobby of the hotel, and inside Clink. Downstairs, we cozied up in the corner for an intimate trunk show in the Alibi Lounge. Laura and Rebecca were interviewed by NESN (we're still awaiting video footage) and we had the opportunity to mingle with friends, customers and Boston fashionistas while gushing over our new fall finds.

The same weekend we bid adieu to Jessica who'll be spending the semester in Paris, and yes... we're jealous.

Last night, we got around to a chore we've been looking forward to tackling: painting our sweet little underground space. The three of us, Laura, Rebecca, and Brianne, shut ourselves up in the store after hours, with pizza and some paint brushes. First step, the fitting rooms. A fresh coat of paint, and per Rebecca's inner domestic goddess, some plaster. Our masterpiece though is the shelving display at the back. Achieving a fresh coat of glossy black paint over our previously bright coral shelving was a bit of a challenge, but success was had and we spiced it up with some coral sponge painting around the frame. Nothing is as fun as a crafty evening with the Crush girls.

For the first year every, Crush Boutique has remained open for the Fourth of July! Today Jess and I had the opportunitiy to meet many new friends, visiting from Toronto, Chicago, Dallas, and various other parts of the country, and globe. New faces shopped for dresses to wear to weddings in Mexico, something special for someone back home, and warm sweaters to snuggle up in for the fireworks tonight. Charles Street is buzzing with tourists making new discoveries in our quaint corner of the city, and locals charging toward the river to stake a claim for this evening's festivities.

The Crush windows are dressed up in red, white and blue. Our item of the day pairs a red Amanda Uprichard piece, featuring a cool cut-out back, with a navy and white dip-dye scarf by 525 America.

While Boston's been drowning lately in almost an entire

month of rain-- we've only had two full days of sun in the month of June-- we're hopeful that we'll meet summer soon, and when we do, the afterwork crowd will be buzzing about patios and roofdecks with fruity cocktails and micro-brews.
As day turns to night, it's easy to only have to change segments of your outfit, or nothing at all.

Last Thursday night, the Beacon Hill Summer Stroll took Crush Boutique by storm. All five of us (Rebeccca, Laura, Brianne, Jessica and Emily) were in the store to help play dress up, take pictures, and share a glass of wine with the summer strollers! We were thrilled to see many of our favorite faces, and to meet some new ones as well.

We served wine, cheese, fruit and other small bites and offered a 10% off one item discount. There was also a raffle full of items from the shops involved. Pamela Larson of Beacon Hill, who shopped at Good, was the winner. We'd like to congratulate her on the fun swag!

The store was really busy, and the line for the fitting room, very long, and we'd like to thank everyone who waited patiently. It was really fun to see all of our new pieces flying off the racks and into the fitting rooms, all going home for fun nights out, weddings, or maybe even the office.

The Media Crushes on.... Crush Boutique

The ladies who Crush have had an exciting week. We've been preparing for the Beacon Hill Summer Stroll, ordering new immediate pieces, unpacking lots of new handbags, donning our new summer duds, and "Sparkle"-ing.

Last Saturday, a new line, Glam rocked our sweet little basement boutique as maxi dresses, neon minis, a strapless sweetheart neckline and a darling navy and white combo flew off our hangers. Busy? Very. Excited? Unbelievably..... And yes, we've already re-ordered some pieces and picked out some really cute, new summer styles that will arrive TODAY! (we hope!).

That's where the excitement started.

Then, on Sunday Brianne attended Sparkle 2, a fashion show at the Beacon Hill Hotel and Bistro to benefit Rosie's Place. Crush dressed two models for the event: Erica Corsano, Editor of Stuff Boston, and Sascha de Gersdorff, Executive Editor of Boston Magazine Publications. Our gorgeous gals were stunning in their Alice and Olivia and Shoshanna dresses, and really spiced up our classic boyfriend jeans and bohemian tops.

As if that weren't enough excitement, Wednesday put all of us at Crush Boutique OVER THE MOON!

Erica Corsano appeared on Fox news to discuss "Warming Trends." She covered lots of new looks, including many from Crush. We really appreciated the shout out and were glad to dress her models for the program.
